And he compares himself further to the locust that is tossed up and down. When the locusts are tossed up and down, they are simply being blown about by the wind; really, driven by the wind, heaved and thrown who knows where. So David is having a tough day here. But imagine for just a moment the day the LORD Jesus had to go before Pilate and see if his day wasn’t one of the locust days.
His day began in the Garden of Gethsemane. The contingent of Temple Soldiers arrived with swords and clubs. H was kissed by Judas; then arrested, hand-cuffed, and took Him first to Caiaphas, where numerous false witnesses accused Him and the entire Sanhedrim Council called for His death. And Jesus held His peace. And when He did, the High Priest Caiaphas tore his robe and declared that Jesus had just sinned the sin of blaspheme. And the Sanhedrim called out loud for his immediate death. Then they proceeded to spit in His face. They punched Him. The slapped Him with their hands. And they taunted Him with “Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is it that smote thee?”
Matthew 26:68 “Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?”
Next, as the sun rose, Caiaphas sent Jesus to Pontius Pilate, the Roman Governor in hopes of getting his agreement that Criminal Jesus should be put to death. And before Pontius Pilate, again Jesus said nothing as He committed Himself to His Father’s care and love. All the while the chief priests and scribes were accusing Him of all sorts of lies. Then, when Pilate could find nothing worthy of death in Him, he tried to release Jesus. But to no avail. The Crowds were now gathered and a mob scene ensued calling for Jesus to be crucified.
So, they stripped Jesus and put a scarlet robe on Him. Then they put a crown made of hard thorns upon His head. And they set a reed in His right hand and began to bow down before Him saying “Hail, King of the Jews!” Matthew 27:29 “And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!”
Then after they had mocked Jesus sufficiently, they took off the robe and put His own clothes back on Him and led Him out of the city to crucify Him.
And He was crucified between two thieves.
Now, wouldn’t you say that Jesus had uphill battle day that day? Wouldn’t He have felt like He had no power left like the shadows as the end of the day? Wouldn’t He have felt like the locust thrown hither and yon by the swirling wind? I’m sure He did. So, when your day goes every way but the quote right way, will you first, turn to the LORD, the One Who truly understands, for help.
Second, admit you hurt. Here’s Psalm 109 again. (24) “My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh faileth of fatness. (25) I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shaked their heads. (26) Help me, O LORD my God: O save me according to thy mercy: (27) That they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, LORD, hast done it.” Go on to page six
