“Doing All You Do
In The Name of Christ”
In The Name of Christ”
Scripture Reading:
I Corinthians 13:1-8 Have you ever heard or used the phrase “That would be the Christian thing to do”?
Well today I’d like to direct your attention to what the LORD says about the things that you and I do. Please open your Bible with me to the Book of Colossians chapter three and look with me at verse seventeen. Colossians 3:17 “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” I’ve titled today’s sermon : “Doing All You Do In The Name of Christ.” Shall we pray? There are two passages of Scripture that cover every single thing in your life. Here they are. Colossians 3:17 “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” And here’s the other. I Corinthians 10:31 “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” When you became a Believer in Jesus Christ, you entered a completely different world. Before coming the LORD you compartmentalized everything. You even compartmentalized God and His Word. Yet, what does the Bible say about your life now that you are in Christ? What does Jesus Christ have charge over if He doesn’t have charge over every single thing? First, God is interested, concerned, and observing every part of your life. God, as you know is omniscient. This means He knows everything and He sees everything. This also means that He observes every aspect of your life from the big events and big decisions down to the things you do when no one is around. |
Look with me at just two phrases and let the Holy Spirit speak to your heart with these two lines. “…whatsoever ye do in word or deed…” and “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink …”These are the ordinary things of your life. They’re even the mundane things; the things you do today and completely forget tomorrow. You see, Christianity has never been a religion as much as it has always been a way of life.
And Who is it that is the Only One Who has the right to direct and prescribe right and wrong in your life? It is the LORD. And this is either very comforting to you or it is very convicting to you. Folks, God is truly interested in your welfare. He’s concerned about what is best for you. He knows everything and He has to have a say in everything you do. Who has the greatest concern about the way you carry out your daily responsibilities at work? Is it your supervisor? Is it your board of directors? Is it your boss? Folks, it’s the LORD. He has the final say in what you do and how you do it. First, God is interested, concerned, and observing every part of your life. God, as you know is omniscient. This means He knows everything and He sees everything. Second, each of us will have to give an account to the LORD for everything we say and do. Today is the test. What will you do today? What will you say today? Yesterday is in the books. Those things we can’t change. Today we can do what we ought to do. And the reason is because God is greatly concerned that we live to His glory. Turn with me to I Corinthians chapter three. Notice verse thirteen. I Corinthians 3:13 “Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. (14) If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. |
