And the LORD even tells us how we are to forgive them. Here it is “even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” You and I are responsible to forgive others not because they deserve it, not because their sins are less or worse than your; but by being aware that the LORD didn’t forgive us because we deserved it. He simply forgives because He loves us and He’s kind to us and He’s tenderhearted towards us.
Here’s a word from the LORD through the Prophet Isaiah on forgiveness. Isaiah 43:25 “I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.”
Mark 11:25 “And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”
Hebrews 8:12 “For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.”
Colossians 3:13 “Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.”
Here’s the lesson of II Samuel chapter fourteen. Half-forgiveness will never do. The only thing that can satisfy both parties in a broken relationship is when both offer full forgiveness to the other.
Think about it this way. God can never extend to you and me half-forgiveness. His forgiveness is complete.
It’s that simple. But it’s really not simple, is it? It’s just simply necessary. It’s just God’s way. And in order for us to move forward in our relationships we must apply God’s word to our own situations.
Colossians 3:13 “Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.”
This is one of the greatest lessons of life, isn’t it? “LORD, thank you for your forgiveness. Thank you that Your forgiving me is full and complete and never half. Thank you for the work of Jesus Your Son who paid the entire debt so that I can enjoy the full debt cancelled. Now, I choose this day to fully forgiven those who have sinned against me. All for Your honor. Amen
Jesus Christ came here to forgive – completely. Colossians 2:10 “And ye are complete in him, …”
John 3:16 [Read]. Prayer of Surrender. # 583 “You Are My All in All”
God’s word is indeed your lifeblood. It’s right. It’s true. It’s good. It’s holy. It’s pure. It’s exactly what you need day after day, week after week, year after year.
Now, will you abide in the truth? Or will you allow yourself to be deceived by hearing the Bible and not doing it? James, the brother of Jesus puts it like this.
James 1:21 “Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
(22) But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. (23) For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
(24) For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. (25) But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.”
Amnon’s surrender to lust is a warning to each of us to let the LORD have full charge of our lives today, right now, so that when a temptation is presented to us, we will look immediately to the LORD and find His way of escape.
And again, please learn the joy of praying the Submission Prayer. It’s ours to pray and to believe and live.
“LORD, I submit all I am to you, my spirit, my soul, and my body. Do with me what is most pleasing to you. Work out Your will upon me today.” Amen
