You see, we can’t
make it through life without Him. So, each time we join together in singing our
praises to Him, He, in essence, grants to us the awareness that He is indeed
right here with us. He inhabits our songs as we sing them to Him.
First, because He lives inside our praise. That’s why we sing.
Second, because singing is the result of being filled with God’s Spirit. Paul teaches in Ephesians 5:18 “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; (19) Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;…”
Whenever you yield yourself to the LORD and ask Him to fill you with His Spirit, you are asking that He control your life with His word. And those who are controlled by His Spirit sing. We sing and make melody to the LORD. We have reason to sing. He fills us with His Spirit and we express our love for Him in song.
First, because He lives inside our praise.
Second, because singing is the result of being filled with God’s Spirit.
And third, because we have been delivered from the power of sin and death.
Psalm 40:2 “He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. (3) And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.”
Each one of us has been brought up out of a horrible pit, the pit of sin; sins that once trapped us and held us hostage until we found out what Jesus has done for us at Calvary. The moment you repent of your sin and believe on Christ, you join the choir. It’s the Children’s Choir, the choir of the sons and daughters of God. He puts a new song in our mouth. And what is that song? It’s praise to our God.
First, because He lives inside our praise.
Second, because singing is the result of being filled with God’s Spirit.
And third, because we have been delivered from the power of sin and death.
Fourth, because God has called us to sing with a thankful heart. Here’s what we find in the words of the Apostle Paul in Hebrews chapter thirteen.
Hebrews 13:15 “By him [by Jesus Christ] therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.” It’s an offering to the LORD when you praise Him. And it’s not a Sunday morning offering only. It’s “the sacrifice of praise to God continually.” We can bring it to Him while we work, while we play, while we pray, and while we serve. So, for Thanksgiving this year, I wonder how many of us will sing. After all, we’ve got a whole lot to be thankful for. Will you express your gratefulness to the LORD this year in song? After all, “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: (2) To show forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,…”
Lastly, a word from A.W. Tozer on being thankful. “Gratitude is an offering precious in the sight of God, and it is one that the poorest of us can make and be no poorer but richer for having made it.” [Found on www.charactercincinnati.org]. Here’s where it all begins.
Is. 59:2 –Sin, death, judgment, eternity; And John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth on Him shall never perish, but have everlasting life."
This is God’s greatest gift to you and me. When you see your sin as offensive to God and then see that it was His love that sent His Son to die for those sins, you will see that you too can turn to Him and find forgiveness and life in Christ. Will you turn to Him today? Pray this simple prayer and, as I always say, come in through the door of the Cross and be saved. “I admit to You that I am a sinner and deserve Your justice for my sins. I now see that you are a God of grace and that by grace I can be saved. Please forgive me of my sins. I receive Jesus Your Son as my Savior and LORD. Amen”
