Page Four: “Continue In The Faith” 11/11/12
Folks, there is nothing greater than the Gospel. It is indeed the most life-giving, hope-filled word in existence.
Look back with me again at Paul’s first words to these Colossians in chapter one verse three. Colossians 1:3 “We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, (4) Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints, (5) For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;…” Do you see just what your hope is directed towards? It’s so sure that it’s quote “laid up for you in Heaven.” If there’s one thing in this world that gives you true hope, it’s the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Show me, if you can, where you can find true hope in this world. Here’s what the Bible says your anchor is - Hebrews 6:17 “Wherein God, willing more abundantly to show unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: (18) That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: (19) Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;…” There is no hope that can settle your soul like the hope Whose name is Jesus Christ. There is no anchor that is so solid like “the anchor of the soul.” Folks, your greatest help and your greatest hope is not found in this world, in society, in mankind, in wealth, in power, or anything else. It’s found in just one place, the God/man, Jesus Christ. Along with perseverance in spiritual things and along with being grounded in the LORD, a Believer in Christ will not be moved away from the hope of the Gospel. What would you ever move away to if you did move away from the Gospel? |
Keep your eyes on just Who Jesus is. He is the Hope of the Gospel. And you will find there is no good reason to ever move away from that Hope.
First, then, perseverance in spiritual things. Second, grounded in the LORD. Third, the hope of the Gospel. Folks, this is so powerful, isn’t it? And, it’s simply wonderful. So here’s the question in light of the Scriptural teaching on the perseverance of the Saints. Are you among those who persevere in their faith? Among those who are grounded and settled in the LORD? And among those who do not move away from the Gospel? Today, folks, is the Day of salvation. If you are here today and have never repented and put your trust in Christ, why not come to Him today and in simple repentance and true faith? Salvation is a free gift. Christ has paid the purchase price. All you need do is repent and believe on Him. John 3:16 says this. “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth on Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” God extended His mercy to us at Calvary. Your sins became His sins. He took your sins on His body and paid the penalty for those sins on the tree we know as the Cross of Calvary. Why? Because of His love for you and me. What will you do about your sins today? • “Will you Repent” = Will you change my mind about God, Christ, my sin, and God’s free gift of salvation. • “I Believe” = Will you simply trust the Lord Jesus Christ alone as the One Who paid the entire penalty for my sins. And in believing, I make Him Lord over my entire life. Here’s the sinner’s prayer. You are welcome to pray it today. “Thank you for the work of Jesus Your Son who paid the entire debt so that I can enjoy the full debt cancelled. LORD, thank you for your forgiveness. Thank you that Your forgiving me is full and complete. Amen” |
