II Samuel 15:26 says this. “But if he thus say, I have no delight in thee; behold, here am I, let him do to me as seemeth good unto him. (27) The king said also unto Zadok the priest, Art not thou a seer? return into the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz thy son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar. (28) See, I will tarry in the plain of the wilderness, until there come word from you to certify me. (29) Zadok therefore and Abiathar carried the ark of God again to Jerusalem: and they tarried there. (30) And David went up by the ascent of mount Olivet, and wept as he went up, and had his head covered, and he went barefoot: and all the people that was with him covered every man his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up. (31) And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O LORD, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness. (32) And it came to pass, that when David was come to the top of the mount, where he worshipped God, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat rent, and earth upon his head:…”
Really the best way to face life’s challenges is to make time to worship Him. Here’s a word from the NT on this. It’s Romans chapter eight and verse thirty-one. Romans 8:31 “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? (32) He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? (33) Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. (34) Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.”
God is continually on your side. And you cannot lose when that is the case. Now, as you can see from this record, David wept as he went. He covered his head, verse thirty. And he walked barefooted. If there is one very good thing that comes upon you in these kinds of circumstances, it is this. You are humbled and sense your need, especially your need for the LORD. And you pray.
Now, some of us, myself included; will leave prayer to the end. But even that works, doesn’t it? Look again at verse thirty-one. (31) “And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O LORD, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.” Look again at verse thirty-two. (32) “And it came to pass, that when David was come to the top of the mount, where he worshipped God, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat rent, and earth upon his head:…”
Practically speaking, it’s almost too simple to be the answer, isn’t it? Trust God and then ask Him to work on your behalf. Well, do you have a better solution?
Don’t look down when you can look up. God is more concerned about you than you will ever know. He’s fully aware of you and your situation and your needs. And He’s in this continual love relationship with you. He only has your best interests at heart. So, you can trust Him. And once you know you are trusting Him, you can surely pray to the One Person you know can and will intervene.
