Page Three: “Doing All You Do In The Name of Christ” 7/14/13
Is it just a Scripture verse to you? Is it just a nice platitude to you? Or do you think “am I doing this in the name of Christ”? Or “what have I done today that was clearly done in the name of Christ?”
Of all the things you do daily and weekly, what are you doing that shows you and those around you that you believe what the Bible teaches? Really can anything you do or say; eat or drink; do or not do; can anything really be done without an awareness that Jesus is your Authority? He is your LORD and Master. Shouldn’t He have His way with you – in everything? First, God is interested, concerned, and observing every part of your life. God, as you know is omniscient. This means He knows everything and He sees everything. Second, each of us will have to give an account to the LORD for everything we say and do. Third, every part of your life is affected by your relationship to Jesus Christ. Fourth, you are here on planet earth to bring glory to God. I Corinthians 10:31 “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” According to the Westminster Confession from 1646 (Church of England) Question # 1. What is the chief end of man? A. Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever. Psalm 86:9 “All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name.” And Psalm 86:12 “I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore.” Psalm 16:8 “I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. (9) Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope. |
(10) For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
(11) Thou wilt show me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” You see, according to the Bible, your life is a life of worship. You and I are here to glorify Him and to enjoy Him. You don’t just “worship God” on Sunday during a song service or even while you are listening to a sermon. We were and are created for worship. And what does that look like? Yes, it occurs when we gather together for to worship the LORD on Sunday. But here’s what the Bible teaches. I Corinthians 10:31 “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” What you eat; what you drink; and whatever you do; it is to be done for God’s glory. You and I have the privilege of knowing and worshipping the LORD all day long in whatever we are doing. And there is also glory given to the LORD through the hard things in your life. Here are the words of the Apostle Peter. I Peter 4:16 “Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.” We glorify God by being a Christian. And we also glorify Him in the times we suffer as a Christian. Why not do what Charles Sheldon did and recommended some 113 years ago – ask yourself the question “Will this glorify God?” It’s almost simple, isn’t it? God’s purpose for your life is the same as His purpose for the one sitting next to you. We are here to glorify Him in everything we do; everything we eat; everything we say, believe, think, etc. and etc. That’s why we are here. Hallelujah! And do remember how Jesus said it? Matthew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” |
