Here’s a picture of where good works fits in the spiritual life from Scripture. When someone, anyone, exercises faith in Christ alone for salvation, he receives God's free gift of salvation. And that faith not only brings you salvation, but because it is by faith alone, then he or she will do good works as a result of believing.
The only way you can be saved is through believing on the “Finished Work” of the Cross of Jesus Christ. This is how and where God showed His love to us. And here’s why. At least, here’s part of the reason why. If you can achieve salvation by your own works, then two things must be true. 1. There is no need for the work of Jesus Christ. 2. God has lied. You see, what God did was to give His Only Son to be the satisfactory sacrifice for your sins. There’s nothing you can except to repent of your sins and believe on Christ’s work. The entire Bible is filled with this truth. Romans 3:20 “Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: ...” I Peter 3:18 “For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:...” Romans 3:24 “Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:...” II Corinthians 5:19 “...God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; ...” Crowns are rewards. They are rewards given by God when our lives are weighed in the balances of God’s justice. And the things God will reward are things like your self-discipline, your faithfulness in the face of temptation, and the like. There is no crown of salvation found or taught anywhere in the entire Bible. f there is, then all the truths about Jesus must be disregarded. All of the work of Jesus on the Cross must be discarded. And all of the Scriptures that say that justification occurs by simple faith in the final work of the Son of God on Calvary must be rejected. So, please don’t mix up the crowns of the Christians from the salvation of a Christian. In conclusion, let me say this. Can you answer life’s most important question? “If you died today, are you certain that you would enter the Gates of Heaven? Either you are relying on the work of Jesus on the Cross of your eternal security or you are relying on your good efforts to get in? Which is it? |
Now, it may be that you are not a Believer in Jesus Christ thus far in your life. And the question, of course, is, “Why not?" What is quote “hindering" you from turning to Jesus Christ and receiving His free gift of eternal security? The Bible is plain about this. Today is the day of Salvation.
What will you do about the condition of your heart for eternity? The Scripture tells us that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth on Him hath everlasting life. The one matter that stands between you and God is the matter of sin. And Jesus went to the cross to take care of that for you. Here's what we find in the Scripture about coming to Him for salvation. REPENT - “Will you change your mind about God, Christ, your sin, and God’s free gift of salvation.” BELIEVE - “Will you simply trust Jesus Christ alone as the One Who paid the entire penalty for your sins.” Here’s a simple salvation prayer for you to pray if you’ve never trusted the LORD for His free gift of eternal life. Salvation Prayer “LORD, I admit that I am a sinner and in need of your grace. I believe that You sent Your Son to the Cross to die for me. Please forgive me of all my sins and make me Your child. Thank you.” The moment you repent and believe on Jesus Christ, you are justified in God's sight. He gives to you the free gift of righteousness. And you are saved for eternity. And for everyone who is a Christian, some day we’ll all have to stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ. We’ll have to give an accounting of our lives to Him. And then, He will give out rewards accordingly. The following story is told of a great foot race that took place in Canada. [It was called in those days “The British Empire games and took place in Vancouver, Canada]. "In 1960 [correction 1954] there was a famous race in Canada between two great runners. The four minute mile was about to be broken and the world expected [Australian]John Landy or [Englishman] medical doctor Roger Banister to do it. John Landy had been leading for most of the race and there was only about two hundred yards to go. They were coming out of the last corner when John Landy looked behind to see where his opponent was placed. Go on to page five |
