Here’s the lesson from these words in II Samuel 5:10 for us for today. See God as He truly is. Let me show you what the Bible teaches about the LORD’s power and His willingness to work on our behalf. And watch how the LORD strengthens and comforts your hearts by these words. On the day Israel crossed the Red Sea on dry ground, God spoke through Moses these words.
Exodus 14:13 “And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will show to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. (14) The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.”
Do you have impossible things you are facing today? See the LORD for Who He is. Listen to His promises. See Him as the One Who can handle your impossible circumstances. Your calling is to believe Him.
Deuteronomy 3:22 “Ye shall not fear them: for the LORD your God he shall fight for you.” This was the LORD’s promise to the Jews when they were about to enter the Promised Land. Notice the LORD’s concern. He wants His people to advance fearlessly. “Ye shall not fear them.” Yes, you may think you have cause for fear and alarm. You might think that you have good reason to worry and doubt and fear. But folks, instead of focusing on your strength or even your lack of strength, look to the LORD and His ability.
From the NT we read this. II Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” And from the Apostle John we read these words. I John 4:18 “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” There are hundreds of passages in the Bible that show you God’s concern that you not be a fearful person. Folks, the LORD is your Strength. In Mark 5:36 we read what Jesus said to the Ruler of the Synagogue. Mark 5:36 “… he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.”
Again, let me emphasize this. It’s God’s constant encouragement to your heart. Here’s Moses again.
Deuteronomy 20:1 “ When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the LORD thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. (3) And shall say unto them, Hear, O Israel, ye approach this day unto battle against your enemies: let not your hearts faint, fear not, and do not tremble, neither be ye terrified because of them; (4) For the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.”
You see, knowing Who the LORD is and knowing His promises and His power should be a huge encouragement to you when you are facing your giants this week.
Here’s what the Bible says about the Tribe of Reuben when they went into battle. I Chronicles 5:20 “And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them: for they cried to God in the battle, and he was entreated of them; because they put their trust in him.” When you are facing your challenges this week, remember what the Reubenites did. They cried to God in the battle. Aren’t you often in a battle in this world? Put this passage to work for you. Call on the LORD “in the battle.”
And do you remember Good King Asa when he had to face the Ethiopians. Here’s what the Bible says.
II Chronicles 14:11 “And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee.
And here’s what we read when the LORD allowed a huge challenge to come to Israel when Jehoshaphat was their king. (15) And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.”
