Page Five: “The Family From God’s Viewpoint” 7/21/13
Folks, we have far too many worldly wise Christians when it comes to the Christian home. None of us are perfect. See yourself in light of the One Who has given Himself for you at Calvary. Ladies, have you chosen God’s role for yourself as a wife? Have you wholly submitted yourself to Him? Is His Word the joy and peace of your heart? And men, have you determined that you and you alone are called to faithfully love your wife.
First, the wife is to be submissive. Second, the husband is to love his wife as Christ loves His Bride. Third, children. God’s plan for the success of the home is not complicated unless we let sin and disobedience have its way in our hearts. Children, here is what God calls you to. (20) “Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.” A child has to look to the LORD just as much as his father and mother needs to look to the LORD. And a child that pleases the LORD is a one who respects, loves, and obeys those God has put over them. This is really the key for a child. When you teach the child to do what pleases the LORD, he sees that there is Someone over his parents. Do you remember the account of Jesus when He was left behind in the Temple for three days? Joseph and Mary returned to search Jerusalem for Him. And when He was found, here’s what the Bible says about Jesus. Luke 2:51 “And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: ...” The child is called upon to be under the charge of the parents. Children are to obey their parents. |
And God calls each child is called to respect those God has placed in authority over them. Exodus 20:12 “Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.”
This is God’s view of the family. And this is what ours should be as well. First, the wife is to be submissive. Second, the husband is to love his wife as Christ loves His Bride. Third, children are called to respectful obedience. Colossians 3:18 “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. (19) Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. (20) Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. Folks, there are no perfect families. Yet, God has shown us His view on the home. Now, each of us has a choice. Each of us has a responsibility. Each of us will either go from here today determined to let Christ be LORD over our homes. So, what will you do? “LORD, right now I submit all that I am and have to you; my spirit, my soul, my body, my time, possessions. Do with me whatever is the most pleasing to You. Work out Your blessed will upon me today. Amen.” |
